With the press gathered this morning, local authorities presented a $20.000 cheque to manager Twan for our accomplishment of reaching division 3. This was a big surprise as there was no race scheduled at the time of the promotion.
A few hours later, local authorities barged in our office, checking the Gewoon Rechtdoor race administration, and coming to the conclusion the team had to be set back to division 4 again.
“This is really unbelievable,” manager Twan proclaimed. “First we get promoted out of nowhere, and then they do some research and demote us again... We will certainly see if it is worth fighting this in court. But we will also let our results speak for us the coming races and make sure that there is no doubt anymore! Oh, and that $20k... I have no idea where I left that to be honest... uhummm. Bye now!”
Gerben Fens, who just reached the highest level any sprinter ever got, was actually happy. “This gives me the opportunity to participate in two classic races the coming week. I feel faster than ever. If we can keep the pace down on the long flat parts of the race and it comes to a sprint with a large peloton I think I have a serious shot at the podium. The fact that that would certainly promote us to a higher division is just an extra motivation.”
